Unofficial Nov. 6, 2012 Presidential Election township- and precinct-level results for suburban Cook County can now be viewed online at cookcountyclerk.com or via this PDF.

Up to 36,000 mail ballots are eligible to be counted if they are postmarked by Nov. 5 and received by Nov. 20, according to state statute. There are also up to 10,767 provisional ballots that if validated will be counted, a process that will begin tomorrow.

Here are a few highlights from Tuesday’s election:

  • All 1,673 suburban Cook County precincts opened on time.
  • Results were reported from 95 percent of precincts by 10 p.m.
  • Based on unofficial results, suburban Cook County turnout was about 69 percent.
  • Oak Park had the highest turnout (79.8%) of any suburban Cook County township, followed by River Forest (76.1%), Rich (75.7%), New Trier (75.2%) and Evanston (74.9%).
  • Thornton Township cast the most ballots for President Barack Obama (63,214), and had the highest percentage of votes for Obama (87.7%).
  • Wheeling Township cast the most ballots for Mitt Romney (28,888), and Barrington Township had the highest percentage of ballots cast for Romney (62.3%).
  • President Obama won 25 of 30 suburban Cook County townships.

All of the highlights are based on unofficial results. The Clerk's office has 21 days to certify the results. Results will be updated periodically as provisional and mail ballots are processed.
