Derrick Martell Rose had a knack for basketball from an early age. The youngest of four brothers, the talented Rose stood out as a special talent in his Chicago neighborhood of Englewood. His family did everything they could to ensure his talent would not be wasted, encouraging him to dribble ambidextrously and shielding him from bad influences and exploitation. Rose has starred at each level of organized basketball. Rose won two city championships while playing at Simeon Career Academy, a Chicago first. In his only year of college basketball, he helped carry Memphis to the national championship game. Rose has also established himself as the leader of his hometown NBA team, the Chicago Bulls.
