Luis Gutierrez has been a teacher, social worker, and community activist. Gutierrez became a Chicago alderman in 1986. While on the Chicago City Council, Gutierrez worked on affordable housing, ethics rules, and eradicating discrimination based on sexual orientation. A U.S. Congressman since 1992, Gutierrez has been a major advocate for immigrants’ rights.
