Polling locations serving suburban Cook County voters are stocked, staffed, and will be ready to open at 6 a.m. Tuesday for the 2024 Presidential Primary Election, the Cook County Clerk’s Office announced today.

In advance of Tuesday’s election, the Clerk’s Office released this time-lapse video that illustrates the distribution of thousands of pieces of polling place equipment as it was being packed up and delivered this past week to the hundreds of polling locations across suburban Cook County.  It can be viewed on the Clerk’s YouTube page

The video was filmed at the Clerk’s Election Operations Center, an enormous warehouse where election equipment is stored and distributed, and where all Mail and Election Day Ballots are processed.   Leading up to Election Day, the Clerk’s Office tests all voting equipment at the warehouse location and packs more than 1,400 Voting Supply Carriers, which contain all essential voting equipment including ballots, polling place signage, PPE, and other supplies.

More than 1.6 million suburban Cook County residents are registered to vote in tomorrow’s Presidential Primary Election, according to Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough, who encourages voters who did not cast their ballots during early voting to do so at their local polling place on Tuesday.

“Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, our community, and our nation as a whole and it is important for all of us to have a voice in the electoral process,” said Yarbrough.  “The Clerk’s Office has been working hard to ensure that all of our polling locations will be ready to serve each and every voter who turns out to cast their ballot on Election Day.”

The Clerk’s Office also released the following statistics about Tuesday’s primary election:

  • There are 1,600,364 registered voters in suburban Cook County, up from 1,570,127 in 2020
  • There will be 5,600 Election Judges, working at 815 polling locations (1,430 precincts)
  • There are 519 candidates on the ballot in 256 contests, 28.5% of them contested
  • There have been 60,023 ballots cast during Early Voting – with one day remaining
  • The Early Voting Sites with the highest voter turnout (with the exception of the last day, 3/18) are Evanston Civic Center: 2,817; Orland Township: 2,760; Matteson Community Center: 2,368; Northbrook Village Hall: 2,323 and Arlington Heights Township: 2,191
  • There are 22 Referenda Questions on the ballot across suburban communities

After polls close on Election Night, the Cook County Clerk’s Office tabulates and displays unofficial vote totals that include: all Early Votes; all Mail Ballots received by Election Day; and all ballots cast in the precincts on Election Day. Precinct and township-level results are not available on Election Night. Election results for suburban Cook County will be available Tuesday evening at cookcountyclerk.com/results.
